By blending elements of funk and metal with experimental rock, the Bay Area-based group Primus innovated a style of neo-progressive rock. The three-piece was formed in the mid-1980s but didn't see its breakthrough until the 1990s with the release of its debut LP Frizzle Fry, in 1990. Though the band called it quits in 2000 after five more records, Primus returned in 2003 and began playing select shows at festivals and music venues around the world. The band released its seventh studio album Green Naugahyde, in 2011.
