Fred Eaglesmith is a country singer/songwriter from Southern Ontario, Canada. One of nine children who were raised by a farming family, as a teenager, Eaglesmith hopped on a freight train, headed west and developed a strong interest in hobo gospel musical styles. As he began honing his musical approach, pervasive themes started appearing in his lyrics about rural and blue collar life. Eaglesmith released his self-titled debut album in 1980 and the LP helped introduce country fans to a talented and humble songwriter who was more concerted about writing true to heart songs than becoming a commercially viable musician.
