Taking its name from Jean Debuffet's word for "outsider art," Art Brut is a five-piece that formed in London in 2003. The group's catchy fusion of new wave, art rock and Brit pop vocals--coined by NME as part of the "art wave" movement--quickly caught on with UK audiences. By the release of its second album in 2006, the group had found a following in the US as well as much of Europe. Known for front man Eddie Argos' sarcastic lyrics about his geeky immaturity, as well as more serious topics such as the over-commercialization of the music industry, Art Brut lives up to its name of creating art as outsiders.
