Soul Asylum is an alternative rock band that initially formed in 1981 as Loud Fast Rules. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota the group adopted its chosen moniker in 1983 before releasing its first album, Say What You Will, Clarence... Karl Sold the Truck, the following year. Soul Asylum signed with A&M Records and released two albums with the label to little commercial acclaim. The group split with the label, only to release the critically lauded album Grave Dancers Union, in 1992 with Columbia. The album, which featured its Grammy Award-winning single "Runaway Train," catapulted the group to the next level. Soul Asylum was invited to play the inauguration of President Clinton the next year and even managed to follow up the album with another commercial and critical success in the form of the 1995 LP, Let Your Dim Light Shine. After the death of bassist Karl Mueller in 2005, Soul Asylum pushed forward to release The Silver Lining, in 2006. The band continues to push forward, releasing more record into the 2010s, such as Change of Fortune.
