Rumpelstiltskin, originally a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 1812 edition of Children's and Household Tales, tells of a miller's daughter whose boastful father claims she can spin straw into gold. After a King summons her to his castle demanding that she spin straw into gold, Rumpelstiltskin is forced to barter with an imp who can complete the task. Rumpelstiltskin has to barter with everything she has to keep the King happy, until she risks losing her first born child.
