Wichita, Kansas outfit, Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy, combines stripped-down jug band music with a set of quirky modern influences. The band formed in 2007 and has since toured the US frequently, managing to stop at a number of music festivals such as Wakarusa along the way. Acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, washboard percussion and horn arrangements make up the gist of the group's instrumentation, while its gruff, loose vocal approach couples well with the tales of drinking whiskey and partying. Listeners shouldn't be surprised to hear bits of punk, ska or metal thrown into the mix as well, as Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy seems keen on avoiding the pigeonholes that can often accompany a band of its kind.
