Hothouse Flowers emerged out of Dublin with a distinctive blend of soul, gospel and traditional Irish music. Initially formed in 1985 when long-time friend Liam O Maonlai and Fiachna O Braonain began performing under the name The incomparable Benzini Brothers, the project quickly evolved into a full band under the name Hothouse Flowers. Earning the attention of Bono, the band dropped its first single "Love Don't Work This Way," on U2's Mother Records in 1986, which lead to a record deal with London Records. Hothouse Flowers released its debut album People, in 1988. Despite a number of lineup changes, the band's core group has stayed permanent, allowing it to go on making its alternative mix of traditional and modern music.
