Though the Edinburgh duo The Vaselines only released one studio album in 1989 before breaking up, this album grabbed the attention of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain who developed a near obsession with the band, covering two of its songs on albums and convincing the band to temporarily reunite to open for Nirvana on tour. Subsequently, multiple greatest hits albums full of unreleased material were put out by the Sub Pop label (the label Nirvana was on) in the 90s and eventually in 2008, the duo officially reunited to tour and release a second studio album. With its early form of alternative indie rock, The Vaselines influenced generations of musicians to follow.
