Toronto six-piece Fucked Up is an experimental hardcore punk band that formed in 2001. After releasing multiple singles and developing a cult following in its native country, which included punk fans and crossover indie rock fans, the band began to receive more widespread attention. This resulted in two live MTV Canada performances in 2007 and 2008 that are still notorious today for the amount of damage the band and its fans did to the MTV studio through moshing. These performances caught the attention of seminal label Matador Records, which signed the band, reissued several of its singles and put out its album The Chemistry Of Common Life, garnering Fucked Up the highly sought after Polaris Music Prize in 2009.
