The music created by the post-rock band Explosions in the Sky can hardly be considered music at all; it's more of a tonal excursion through sonic landscapes. The creations that the group from Austin, Texas, craft are drawn out and have been referred to by the band as "cathartic mini-symphonies." Even though the group uses drums as well as electronic guitars, many of the sounds created are uncharacteristic of the instruments from which they are derived. The group was founded in 1999 and although the four-piece has never really achieved mainstream success, it has a dedicated fan base that worships the members of the band like demi-gods and pays good money to see the band perform whenever it's on tour.
