Collective Soul is an alternative rock band from Stockbridge, Georgia that was prominent during the 1990s. Front man Ed Roland was invovled in the underground music scene in Georgia when one of his demos was passed to a college radio station in Atlanda. The station began playing Roland's song "Shine," which became the station's most requested song and the catalyst for the formation of Collective Soul. Roland assembled a lineup in 1992, and the band released the demo Hits, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid, as its debut album in 1993. The album became certified double-platinum, setting the tone for a lucrative decade for Collective Soul that saw several number one albums and singles. Though the band's music never found a mainstream audience in the 2000s, Collective Soul contintues to release music such as its 2009 album, Collective Soul (Rabbit).
