This traditional celebration takes place on the streets of Bornheim every August. With a history dating back over 300 years, the six-day festival is known for its traditional rituals (in contrast to other, more consumer-oriented events). The festival begins with the setting up of the 'Kerb Tree' on the main square, followed by a parade along streets decorated with green brushwood and colored paper. Highlights on the final day include a competition for young men known as Gickelschmiss and the burning of the witch (nowadays only a puppet). There is, of course, plenty to eat and drink!
