Christmas celebrations begin early in Germany and St. Nicholas Day sets the scene. During the day, the German Nicholas rides about on a white horse or a horse-drawn sleigh, followed by his manservant, Ruprecht, handing out candy to the children they pass. This procession is an exciting event for everyone, especially since St. Nicholas' journey through downtown Frankfurt is in the midst of the Christmas Market. Children cheer and follow St. Nicholas, begging for more treats. Adults get into the fun by handing out candy to any child near by. Free event.
