Jaya the Cat is Amsterdam-based ska punk band that was formed in Boston in 2003. The band earned local acclaim after the release of its debut album Basement Style, in 2000 but failed to gain attention in other parts of the US. Following a tour of the US and Europe that included a gig at Lowlands Festival in Holland, Jaya the Cat recorded its sophomore effort titled First Beer of a New Day, and released in 2002. After half nearly half of the band's lineup quit, the remaining members made the decision to move to Amsterdam where they met and worked with several dutch musicians, some of which joined Jaya the Cat at permanent members. The band's subsequent album More Late Night Transmissions With.. demonstrated a relaxed sound with more reggae influences than its previous punk sound.
