Indian philosopher, economist, and most importantly, freedom fighter, Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (fondly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar) was a very important figure in Indian history. Born to a family of untouchables, or the dalit caste, Ambedkar dedicated most of his life towards the eradication of the discriminatory Hindu caste system. He was one of the first people from the dalit community to attain a college education. Owing to his contribution towards the betterment of society he is honored and remembered on his birthday each year, which is celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti.
