Boston-born and bred boy band and R&B group New Edition led the way towards the formation of boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync. Popular in the mid-to-late 1980s, New Edition helped re-define R&B as a genre that could reach pop heights, incorporating choreographed dances to the group's hit singles, and ultimately creating a dynamic performance aesthetic to the genre. The group's members have come and gone through out New Edition's history, but for most of the 21st century the group has maintained its original members. New Edition has spent much of their later career playing reunion tours around the world, bringing the group's beloved songs to a dedicated, passionate fan base.
