Often stylized as SOiL, Soil is an American rock band that emerged out of Chicago, Illinois, in 1997. The band saw its breakthrough year in 2001 when Pat Lynch of Orlando, Florida, rock radio station WJRR began playing the demo of "Halo" in heavy rotation, catalyzing a major label bidding war. Soil landed with RCA Records division J Records, in 2001, and released its debut album, Scars, later the same year. Though the band has hopped between labels since the mid 2000s, it continues to drop records, including 2013's Whole.
