American singer-songwriter Evelyn "Champagne" King became renowned during the disco era of the late 1970s and the 1980s. A native of the Bronx, New York, she was born into a family involved in showbiz - her uncle performed in the Broadway revival of Porgy and Bess, her father was a back-up singer and mother an entertainment manager. She was discovered at the age of 16 when a producer overheard her singing in the bathroom and was eventually signed to RCA Records. Her debut album Smooth Talk was released in 1977 and included the hit "tracks "Shame" and "I Don't Know If It's Right." She then went on to release multiple studio and compilation albums such as Open Book, Dance Vault Remixes, Flirt, The Essential Evelyn "Champagne" King and Evelyn "Champagne" King Greatest Hits, among others. Many of her songs, including "Love Come Down," "I'm in Love" and "Betcha She Don't Love You," became big hits.
