Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine is an English indie rock band formed in London in 1986. The band consists of Jim Bob (vocals, guitar) and Fruitbat (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals). They are best known for their humorous lyrics and energetic live performances. The band released their debut album, The Love Album, in 1989. It was followed by 30 Something in 1991, which featured the hit single "The Only Living Boy in New Cross". The band's third album, 1992: The Love of the Common People, was their most successful, reaching number 4 in the UK Albums Chart. It featured the singles "Sheriff Fatman" and "The Impossible Dream (of the Same Name)". Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine released several more albums throughout the 1990s, including Post Historic Monsters (1995) and A World Without Dave (1998). They also released a number of EPs and singles, including "Anytime Anyplace Anywhere" and "The Only Living Boy in New Cross". Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine have been praised for their witty and often political lyrics, as well as their energetic live performances. They have been credited with influencing a number of bands, including Blur, Supergrass and The Libertines. The band split in 1997, but reunited in 2008 and have since released two more albums, Punk Rock Paranoia (2009) and A World Without Dave (2010).
