Mormon husband-wife duo (along with a consistently rotating third member) Low is known as an early 90s pioneer of the slowcore movement. While the band dislikes being associated with this term, and prefers minimalist post-rock, it was one of the first to play such quiet, haunting rock in an era of loud post-punk and grunge and thus is a significant contributor to this style of music. Formed in Duluth, Minnesota, the band quickly grabbed the attention of major label heads and was touring with Radiohead within a few years of its inception, while band member Mimi Parker was visibly pregnant. Though the trio has never received huge mainstream success, it remains an indie darling, releasing albums popular at college radio and touring worldwide.
