As one of the most notable groups of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement in the late 1970s, Saxon has firmly cemented its place in the metal history books throughout its long and accomplished career. The band formed in Yorkshire, England and quickly began to craft its sound, a heavy mix of brawny riffs, epic guitar solos and dramatic, often over-the-top vocals. Despite a number of lineup and personnel changes throughout the years, the group has at various times charted as one of the more successful bands in the UK, landing several hit albums and singles. Saxon's sound would go on to influence bands that would soon take its metal crown, such as Metallica and Megadeth, but its legacy is evidenced by its still popular and talked about live act.
