Kit Armstrong is a classical pianist and composer who was recognized from an early age as a musical prodigy. Born in the US into a non-musical family, he excelled in science, mathematics, various languages and most impressively music composition, which he taught himself without access to a piano by simply reading an encyclopedia. He made his professional pianist debut as a soloist with the Leipzip Gewandhaus Orchestra at the age of 8 in 2000, the same year he finished his debut symphony, Celebration, and won the first place prize from the Music Teachers' Association of California for his 1999 piece, Chicken Sonata. He has since produced several pieces, as a soloist, with ensembles of all sizes and as a commissioned composer, including his 2010 piano piece Half of One, Six Dozen of the Other, and his 2012 orchestral work, Andante.
