Mexico City's Mexican Institute of Sound (M.I.S.) is the project of Camilo Lara, renowned record collector (with over 45,000 pieces of vinyl to his name) and president of EMI Mexico. His work as M.I.S. is known for its frequent use of early Mexican record samples from the 1920s-60s blended with Basque vocals, electronic beats and turntable scratches. One of the forerunners of Mexico's burgeoning electronica scene, M.I.S. continues to both expand the palette of its country's natives and spread its country's culture throughout the world.
