With origins dating back to as early as the 1920s, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra is a musical ensemble that plays at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The modern incarnation of the orchestra re-appeared in 1991 under the direction of Principal Conductor John Mauceri after the symphony had been inactive for decades. During his sixteen-season tenure, he brought the orchestra on several international excursions, spreading his version of classical standards as well as American cinema classics. After he retired in 2006, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra has been led by guest conductors, including Principal Guest conductor Thomas Wilkins, offering a variety of programs from each corner of the music world, from Motzart to Motown, cinema scores to free jazz and classic pop music.
