George Porter Jr. is a singer/songwriter and bassist who initially rose to prominence in the mid-1960s with the pioneering New Orleans-based funk group The Meters. Having launched a solo endeavor with the outfit the Runnin' Pardners in the 1990s, Porter's characteristically dexterous style of funk playing has earned him a reputation as one of the more capable bassists of his generation. In addition to his work with The Meters and The Runnin' Pardners, Porter has collaborated with some big names from the music scene including Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffett and David Byrne.
