The Brighton, England-based alternative rock band Levellers has managed to remain one of the premier underground groups of its generation since its formation in 1988. Having largely been ignored by the mainstream press, the band collected a devoted fan base with it affinity for anarchist principals and pro-earth environmental issues, so much so that Levellers is widely considered to have some of the most cult-like followings in modern music. Offering an alternative experimental sound the band released its debut album, A Weapon Called the Word, in 2010 with a mix of hard-edged rock and whimsical Celtic-esque elements. The band's music has since evolved to include characteristics of folk and punk, and has consistently been hailed as experimental through Levellers various releases, including 1997's Mouth to Mouth, and its 2012 album, Static on the Airwaves.
