Formed in New Jersey in 1980, Overkill was part of the American thrash metal community that spawned bands such as Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer. Although it would never reach the same commercial peaks and worldwide success as its counterparts, Overkill nevertheless has done well for itself over the years. The band has experienced a number of lineup changes, but lead singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and bass player D.D. Verni have remained as core members. Overkill's music falls in line with most all the familiar characteristics of thrash metal, from the rapid fire riffing to the intense and powerful musicianship. Still going strong, the band continues to tour and now has around 15 albums to its credit.
