Tokio Hotel is one of the more prominent German pop rock groups to achieve crossover appeal to audiences in the United States. The band started out as a sensation amongst teen audiences in its home country and after seeing the potential to reach audiences over seas, the group started performing songs in English. Tokio Hotel has been making music together since 2001 and though the androgynous appearance of lead singer Bill Kaulitz can turn some listeners away, it serves as somewhat of a gimmick for the band and works to entice an angst ridden fan base.
