Born to a coal mining family in rural Kentuckey in the early 1930s, Loretta Lynn married at the age of 13 and had children shortly thereafter. After helping rear her children for a period of time, Lynn's husband gave her a guitar for her 24th birthday. Always having a deep rooted connection, it was this six-stringed present that motivated Lynn to concentrate on actually taking the time and putting the effort that is necessary into writing heartfelt songs. She released her first album, Loretta Lynn Sings, in 1963 and it was met with favorable reception by critics and the American general listening public. Since her formative days in the music industry the 1960s, Lynn has managed to experience ebbs and flows of success, most recently releasing a 2004 album that was produced by Jack White.
