When The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion formed in 1991, all the members of the band had pretty respectable backgrounds within the lo-fi rock scene. However, when the Explosion came together, the musicians wanted to pursue a more quintessential rock 'n' roll sound with strong influences from early blues as well as 1990s alternative rock. The band has made waves within several indie rock circles, and after nearly two decades of existence, the Blues Explosion has come to be revered and respected as one of the leading blues-based, rock 'n' roll, quasi lo-fi outfits of its generation.
