Chic, oftentimes billed as Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, is a band from New York City that was founded in 1976. Blending together elements of funk, soul and R&B into a cohesive whole that was referred to as disco, Chic would go on to become one of the flagship bands of the disco movement of the 1970s. Initially the project of guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards during its formative years, Chic hosted a myriad of musicians and singers over the years with somewhat of a flexible revolving door policy. After the anti-disco revolution of the late-1970s, Chic would disband while Rodgers and Edwards went on to work as producers and session musicians for well known bands and artists like INXS, Peter Gabriel, Madonna, David Bowie and Duran Duran. The group would eventually reunite, release its comeback album, Chic-ism, in 1992 and go on to tour. After Edwards passed away in 1996, Rodgers was slow to return to the stage and perform songs from the Chic catalog, although, after a period of time, Rodgers would comeback and perform Chic songs in front of rapt audiences, which he continues to do.
