Though Javier Colon is best known for winning the 2011 season of NBC's reality show The Voice, he was a fairly successful musician years before this discovery. Initially a member of the Derek Trucks Band, the Connecticut-based singer/songwriter branched off as a solo artist in 2002 and quickly landed a recording contract with Capitol Records. Though the contract was terminated in 2006, Colon continued as an independent artist, starting his own record label until auditioning for The Voice. Colon's acoustic soul caught the attention of the show's judges and shot the singer/songwriter to fame.
