Ever since Amy Grant released her eponymously-titled debut album in 1977, she has managed to establish her herself as one of the flag-bearers of the christian music scene, with many referring to her as "the Queen of Christian pop." Though she was born in Augusta, Georgia, she was raised in Nashville, Tennessee--a city with an impressive music scene that undoubtedly left a strong impression on Grant as she was growing up. Instilled with a strong sense of Christian values, Grant started writing catchy religious pop music in the late-1970s and although it took her a while to find an audience, by the 1980s she was being lauded by many aficionados of christian music for her catchy songwriting style. Though she has caught a bit of flack by fundamentalists for her oftentimes provocative clothing choices, as well as her divorce and subsequent remarriage, Grant has led an impressive career in the Christian music world and is still regarded by many as one of the more talented religious musicians of her time.
