American blues artist Curtis Salgado has been entertaining audiences with his mighty vocals since the 1960s. Born in 1954 into a family of music lovers, he was emboldened to pursue a career in music after seeing Count Basie at the age of 13. He picked up the harmonica and was playing shows at nightclubs by the time he turned 16. He formed a band called the Nighthawks and began playing at various blues festivals, which provided him the opportunity to perform with legends. A few years down the road, he formed a new band - Curtis Salgado & the Stilettos - and released its eponymous debut album in 1991. As a solo artist, Salgado released his debut album More Than You Can Chew in 1995 and was invited to play with the likes of Santana and Steve Miller on tours. He was signed onto Shanachie Records in 1999 and issued Wiggle Outta This that same year. A warhorse of the blues scene, Salgado has won numerous honors such as the Blues Music Awards, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year and Soul Blues Album of the Year. His songs have an earnestness that appeals to his listeners, bringing them back for more.
