Carminho is a singer/songwriter from Lisbon, Portugal who specializes in singing a quintessentially Portuguese style of folk music called "fado." Raised amongst a musical family, with a mother being a recognizable fado singer in her own right, Carminho was soon writing her own songs and putting her own distinctive spin on the quintessential Portuguese style of music. Releasing her debut album, aptly called Fado, in 2009, Carminho managed to achieve massive crossover success with her music with a characteristically modern sound applied to the slightly antiquated fado sound.
