The Monochrome Set is a British post punk band that has endured several breakups and lineup changes to remain a relevant contributor to the health of the UK rock scene. Formed in London in 1978, The Monochrome Set initially consisted of guitarist Lester Square, bassist Charlie Harper, drummer John D. Haney and a chief songwriter simply known as Bid. In 1985, however, what was supposed to be a breakthrough album released on Warner Brothers Records enjoyed only middling success, ultimately leading to the band's demise. In 1990, the group sparked the first of what has ultimately been two reformations, touring the world extensively and enjoying some rejuvenated success. Further proving a demand for the band's angular, new wave-inspired rock and roll, The Monochrome Set has been featured in several prominent musical festivals across the UK and Europe well into the 2000s.
