What was once a small festival for local musicians has now turned into a huge event featuring musicians from all over the world. Every last weekend in July or first week in August, thousands of people flock to the city to listen to an array of music ranging from Scandinavian brass bands to Bolivian pipe bands. There is a different theme every year. Germany's biggest weekly paper Die Zeit recently included the Bardentreffen on its list of the top 300 events in the world. Well worth a visit. See website for a complete listing of venues and program.
