With a string of smash hit singles, including "Right Here Waiting" and "Hazard," Richard Marx became one of the most successful American pop singers in the 1980s and early 1990s. The adult contemporary singer specializes in both rock-minded R&B songwriting and emotional balladry, the latter of which helped cement his reputation as a fixture on radio station playlists throughout the US. Marx grew up in Illinois, where at 17, a demo of his found its way to Lionel Richie, who prompted the singer to move to Los Angeles. Richie's instincts were right, as Marx would go on to become the first solo artist to have his first seven singles all land in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart. He continues to tour and record fairly regularly, and has also collaborated with a number or prominent artists such as Keith Urban and Josh Groban.
