Washington D.C. trio Jukebox the Ghost formed in 2003 during the hiatus of lead singer Ben Thornewill and guitarist Tommy Siegel's band The Sunday Mail. Taking its name from blending together a quote from Nabokov's novel Pnin and a Captain Beefheart song, the newly formed band began writing new material that focused on pop hooks and lyrical ingenuity, much like the band's namesakes. The band toured extensively upon the release of its first album in 2006, but received its big break with a surprisingly last minute invitation to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman in September of 2010.
