Streets Dept Excursions are guided tours of Philly's art and public space! Each month we lead curated walks around the "mural capital of the world." While the focus and location of each month's Excursion is always different, overall we explore three main themes: 1) public/street art, 2) public space/architecture, and 3) independent art spaces.

OUR JULY 2024 EXCURSION / WHAT YOU'LL SEE:

This (nearly) entirely indoors summer tour will be exploring the creativity of two American Street buildings. First, we'll get a special look at Atelier Prajjé Oscar inside the Crane Arts Building, the studio of one of Philly's most prominent fashion designers (of Project Runway fame.)

Then, we'll head over to the brand-new Ray Building, which is now home to numerous spaces, including: Ulises Books, a bookshop focused on independent books and artist publications; Studio 105, an exhibition space owned by Ray, programmed by Ulises through May 2025; Linden Ave Studio, a multi-dimensional art and design studio specializing in branding and creative services for business and nonprofit organizations; South Kensington Community Partners, a place-based organization that serves as the neighborhood “help desk” with a mission to catalyze community engagement and action; and Philly Social House, a woman-owned photography studio, creative hub and networking organization, dedicated to promoting female business owners and entrepreneurs in the Philadelphia area.

YOUR TOUR GUIDES:

Streets Dept Excursions are led by Conrad Benner and Eric Dale. Born and raised in Fishtown, Conrad is the founder of StreetsDept.com, which has been documenting and celebrating Philly's art world since January 2011. Eric Dale is an independent creator who joined Streets Dept in 2017 and contributes photos, articles, and artist interviews to the blog.

IMPORTANT TOUR NOTES:

This month's Excursion will start at the Crane Arts Building (meet outside the main door!) and end at the Ray Building.
This tour includes walking/rolling on sidewalk for 2-3 city blocks; and moving through two buildings that have ramps and elevators. Please reach out, if you have more questions on accessibility!
All Excursions are rain or shine (except in extreme conditions)–so it never hurts to bring an umbrella.
Tours are ticketed and tickets/names will be checked at the start of each tour; you can bring a digital or printed copy of your ticket, or just check-in with the ticket purchaser's name!

Can't wait to see y'all! #StreetsDeptExcursions
