Akron, Ohio-based duo The Black Keys has been doing a noble job of blending blues with modern rock since its formation in 2001. The garage/blues rock sound the band has been cranking out since its 2002 debut LP, The Big Come Up, is hard-hitting and reminiscent of the days when bands didn't need computers to make music. Though blues has influenced nearly every musical genre of the 20th and 21st centuries, The Black Keys often pay homage to the genre with twangy guitar licks and riff-driven rhythms--bringing blues to the forefront of its indie rock sound.
