Combining fuzzy indie pop with infectious melodies, Alvvays makes sugary sounds that are sure to stick in your head. This five-piece band was created in Toronto when lead vocalist Molly Rankin and next-door neighbor Kerri MacLellan joined forces. They met up with guitar player Alec O'Hanley and later with Brian Murphy and Phil Maclsaac, who respectively play bass and drums, to complete the new-born quintet. Between touring with Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Peter Bjorn and John, playing with Wintersleep, and recording with Chad VanGaalen, the band busily worked on new songs, resulting in its popular single "Adult Diversion". The song earned a fair amount of internet hype and eventually attention from Polyvinyl Records, who signed Alvvays and released the band's self-titled debut albumin 2014.
