Formed as a side project of the band Agnostic Front, Madball was born out of the New York hardcore scene of the 1980s. The side project eventually became the band's main focus and Madball began performing regularly in NY underground venues. Though the new group produced music almost indistinguishable from its former band, it did incorporate slightly more of a crossover-thrash sound into its hardcore punk sound. Madball developed a devout fan base and was included in the 1995 documentary N.Y.H.C., which discussed the formation of New York's hardcore scene. Since then, the band has changed lineups multiple times, but has continued to release albums and tour worldwide.
