Never Trust a Name! If you need to get away from the asphyxiating haze of the overcrowded beaches and riviera traffic during the second week of July, just head 20 or so kilometers inland over the winding roads to Monte Colombo. The atmosphere here is quite the opposite of the tourist world of the coast; the sights and sounds of rural areas will send you back in time. The festival held here is based around tripe and strangolapreti (small balls made from flour and water, boiled and eaten with meat or tomato sauce). Though neither of the names are inviting, it is possible to appreciate the skill with which the dishes are prepared for the visitors. Exhibitions are held illustrating traditional country life in the area, there are displays of vintage cars and motorcycles, evening dances and shows put on for the public.
