West Virginia-based artist Kathy Mattea is a bluegrass singer/songwriter and guitarist with Celtic, traditional country and folk influences. She first saw commercial acclaim with her 1986's Walk the Way the Wind Blows, which captured audiences with its folky, accessible lyrics. Industry attention came shortly after in 1990 with the release of her track "Where've You Been," a bleeding-heart song that earned Mattea the 1990 Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocals, as well as her 1993 Christmas album Good News. With over a dozen studio albums spanning four decades, Mattea has maintained a modern country sound by incorporating several different genres such as gospel and traditional styles into her music.
