Escape from Alcatraz is an annual triathlon organized in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. First held in 1981, it comprises swimming, running and biking sections and covers a distance of 29 miles (46.67 kilometers). Highly popular, it draws thousands of participants each year via a lottery-based entry system as well as qualification rounds. The triathlon kicks off from the San Francisco Belle near Alcatraz Island and continues along Marina Green Beach, Lincoln Boulevard, Golden Gate Park and Baker Beach Battery before concluding at Marina Green.
