Red Molly is an American folk trio from New York that formed in 2004 as the experiment of three solo singer/songwriters who were curious how they might sound as a group. Very impressed with their work as a band, the three ladies of Red Molly decided to leave their solo acts behind in favor of pursuing a career as a band. The decision proved to be a good one, as evidenced by the band being named Top New Artist of the Year by Boston's famed WUMB radio station in 2006. Since then, the group has started to transition away from Americana and folk in favor of a more pop-oriented sound, with a new album expected to highlight this new direction in 2011.
