Real Betis Balompié is from the Andalusian region of Spain, based out of the city of Seville, where the team takes the pitch at the massive Benito Villamarín Stadium. The grounds have been in use since 1929 and Benito holds a capacity of 52,500. Real Betis takes its name from the Roman name for the river Guadalquivir, then called Baetis and ‘balompié’ is the original word for football in this part of Spain. It entered La Liga in 1932 and won the title in 1934-35, the only time it has done so after more than 48 seasons in the league. The club’s main rival is the other city team, FC Sevilla; they have played more than a hundred times since their first game in 1915, with FC Sevilla holding the higher win ratio.
