Elkie Brooks is a jazz vocalist who got her start as the lead singer of Vinegar Joe, an R&B band with which she developed a reputation for her wild rock and roll stage presence. After the band split up in 1974, she recorded and released her debut solo album with A&M records titled Rich Man's Woman, in 1975. The album was met with critical acclaim, particularly for Brooks' powerful husky voice, and she has been steadily releasing albums and performing world-wide ever since. Brooks released her 18th studio album Powerless, in 2010.
