Sonic Masala has always been a massive purveyor of ambient and drone music, but that hasn't always crossed over to the shows put on (especially here in Nottingham) - well on Wednesday September 4 that all changes!

A-Sun Amissa - Fresh from playing ArcTanGent, A-Sun Amissa is coming to JT Soar for the first time. The brainchild of Richard Knox, A-Sun Amissa have been exploring the edges of some kind of avant-rock for over a decade. The quest to keep delving deep into new voids sees the project moving in and around a diverse chasm of melancholic drone, post-rock, doom and ambient sounds.

Sulk Rooms - Emerging from the flickering neon lights of his blistering electronic work as Ffion and producing glistening techno under his birth name, Thomas Ragsdale strips back pace and progression in favour of smoke, strobes and drones for his Sulk Rooms project. His Viewers album of last year made my Sonic Masala top 100, this is what I said - "Sulk Rooms from Yorkshire creates tonal waves that aren?t so much incremental in their shifts than elemental, rapturous rather than doom laden or sterile. Viewers is the best encapsulation of what he does so far, and as such has been a go to suite of sound this year. Another artist I?d like to see in Nottingham in 2024 for sure." Looks like I am getting my wish...

Notintone - Nottingham-based duo of Rebecca Lee (Bredbeddle) and Marie Thompson adept at snaking lines of flute and oboe then treated with FX to create beautifully detailed but slightly wonky soundscapes - woodwind unwound. Named after the Domesday Book's rendering of Sneinton, they have performed at the Tusk Fringe, Todmorden Folk Fest, Primary, Rammel Club and also played the very special Genghis Cohn show last year - will be very good to see them again.
